Minor Arcana · Cups
Queen of Cups
A queen sits at the water's edge, feet on the pebbles, gazing at a closed, ornate cup: deep feeling held with care.
By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

Court card
It can be read as a role or a side of you. The Queen is the maturity to care for yourself, for others and for what matters.
Image and meaning
The throne is carved like a shell, the gown falls in folds that look like water, and the sea runs right up to the Queen's feet. The cup held in both hands is the only one in the suit with a lid. This card can describe something in you, or a role you take on for others: feeling a great deal while staying on solid ground, and caring in a way that includes yourself.

The suit of Cups: feelings and bonds.
Light and shadow
Support. Empathy steadied by insight: sensing what others feel without losing yourself.
Worth noticing. Giving others a kind of care you rarely offer your own feelings.
A gentle step
Lay a palm over your heart and say to yourself what you would tell a dear friend feeling the same thing.
Gently. Caring for others over a long stretch takes real energy; rest and support are part of the work, not a reward for finishing it.
Across areas of life
- Relationships
- Listening with your whole attention, and letting yourself be listened to in return.
- Work
- Caring roles, counseling or creative work that draws on emotional depth.
- Resources
- Your sensitivity as a resource, with rest built in rather than squeezed in.
- About you
- Kindness toward your own feelings, as steady as the kindness you show others.
Questions for yourself
Whose feelings do you hold most carefully, and is there room in that care for your own?
What helps you stay steady when you are close to strong emotions?
