You're not alone

Choose whatever helps right now.

If a life is in danger

Call the local emergency number, or ask someone nearby to call. If you have already hurt yourself or taken something dangerous, call now, even if you feel all right.

Where are you right now?

Help numbers depend on the country you're in, not on the site's language. We never ask for access to your location.

What you can do right now

  • If anything nearby could be used to hurt yourself, put it out of reach or ask someone to stay with you.
  • Message someone you trust: “I’m having a hard time. Can you be with me?”
  • You don't have to solve everything now. Getting through the next few minutes is enough.

Talk to a person

If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to live, call a support line. They will listen without judgment. You can also call when things simply feel too heavy.

Choose your country above to see its support lines. Lines in many countries are also listed in the Find A Helpline directory.

Major Arcana · XI

Justice

Level scales in one hand, an upright sword in the other: an honest look that weighs before it decides.

By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

The card Justice, arcanum XI: a drawing from the 1909 deck in a velvet frame
The 1909 deck after drawings by Pamela Colman Smith (public domain).

Image and meaning

The figure sits between two gray pillars and looks straight out at you. The scales hang level, and the sword is held upright and still. The point is to see the situation as it is: what happened, what was yours to do, and what was beyond your control. Being fair includes being fair to yourself. Owning your part is one thing; condemning your whole self is another.

Keywords

  • fairness
  • honest weighing
  • clear sight
  • integrity

Light and shadow

Support. A clear view of what is yours to answer for, and what never was.

Worth noticing. How quickly honest weighing can slide into blaming yourself for everything.

A gentle step

Draw a line down the middle of a page. On one side write what was in your hands, on the other what was not.

Gently. Owning your part never means taking the blame for harm someone else chose to do.

Across areas of life

Relationships
Whether the give-and-take feels fair from where you stand, and whether your needs weigh as much as anyone's.
Work
Who agreed to what, and your real share of the result, counting credit as well as mistakes.
Resources
What sits on each side of the scales: effort and rest, what you give and what refills you.
About you
An inner witness that sees your part clearly and keeps your worth off the scales.

Questions for yourself

What part of this situation is honestly yours, and what part is not?

Whose needs do you weigh carefully, and do your own get the same care?

In the tarot tradition, for reflection. The card does not know the future and is no substitute for professional advice.
