You're not alone

Choose whatever helps right now.

If a life is in danger

Call the local emergency number, or ask someone nearby to call. If you have already hurt yourself or taken something dangerous, call now, even if you feel all right.

Where are you right now?

Help numbers depend on the country you're in, not on the site's language. We never ask for access to your location.

What you can do right now

  • If anything nearby could be used to hurt yourself, put it out of reach or ask someone to stay with you.
  • Message someone you trust: “I’m having a hard time. Can you be with me?”
  • You don't have to solve everything now. Getting through the next few minutes is enough.

Talk to a person

If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to live, call a support line. They will listen without judgment. You can also call when things simply feel too heavy.

Choose your country above to see its support lines. Lines in many countries are also listed in the Find A Helpline directory.

Major Arcana · V

The Hierophant

A seated teacher, two listeners, two crossed keys: what is handed down, and what you choose to keep.

By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

The card The Hierophant, arcanum V: a drawing from the 1909 deck in a velvet frame
The 1909 deck after drawings by Pamela Colman Smith (public domain).

Image and meaning

Between two gray pillars a figure in a red robe raises one hand, and two people kneel to listen. At the figure's feet lie two crossed keys. This is the card of what passes from person to person: family customs, a craft, a shared set of values. Some of it holds a life steady; some of it was never chosen at all. The question is which of these keys you would still pick up today.

Light and shadow

Support. Belonging, and the steadiness of methods that many hands have tested before yours.

Worth noticing. Which rules you live by are your own choice, and which simply came with where you grew up.

A gentle step

Name one value you learned long ago that still feels like yours. Say it to yourself in your own words.

Gently. A tradition can be honored in your own way; keeping its spirit does not require keeping every form.

Across areas of life

Relationships
Shared values and spoken agreements: what matters to both of you, said plainly rather than assumed.
Work
Learning from someone who knows the craft, passing on what you know, or following a method that has proven itself.
Resources
A community or circle where you belong, and customs that give the week a familiar shape.
About you
The values you were raised with, and the quiet work of sorting which ones are yours.

Questions for yourself

Which of the values you grew up with still ring true for you?

Where, and with whom, do you feel at home without having to perform?

How to read this card

The card does not tell you what is coming and does not judge you. Notice what in the image resonates and what does not: both say something about you, your feelings and your needs.

In the tarot tradition, for reflection. The card does not know the future and is no substitute for professional advice.

Card of the day

Every day one card is shared by everyone. Open it and see what this image highlights in you.

If you'd like some supportMy values

The cards are a prompt to pause and listen to yourself. In the tarot tradition, for reflection: the cards do not know the future and decide nothing for you. The texts are for reflection and entertainment and are no substitute for advice from a doctor, psychologist, lawyer or financial professional.
