You're not alone

Choose whatever helps right now.

If a life is in danger

Call the local emergency number, or ask someone nearby to call. If you have already hurt yourself or taken something dangerous, call now, even if you feel all right.

Where are you right now?

Help numbers depend on the country you're in, not on the site's language. We never ask for access to your location.

What you can do right now

  • If anything nearby could be used to hurt yourself, put it out of reach or ask someone to stay with you.
  • Message someone you trust: “I’m having a hard time. Can you be with me?”
  • You don't have to solve everything now. Getting through the next few minutes is enough.

Talk to a person

If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to live, call a support line. They will listen without judgment. You can also call when things simply feel too heavy.

Choose your country above to see its support lines. Lines in many countries are also listed in the Find A Helpline directory.

Seven of Wands

On a grassy rise, a young man holds one staff crosswise against six pushing up from below: keeping your position under pressure.

By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

The card Seven of Wands: a drawing from the 1909 deck in a velvet frame
The 1909 deck after drawings by Pamela Colman Smith (public domain).

Image and meaning

A young man stands on a grassy rise, feet wide apart, holding one staff across his body. Six more staffs push up from below the edge; whoever holds them is out of sight. His face is tense, and his footing imperfect: a shoe on one foot, a boot on the other. Yet the higher ground is his. The courage here is steady rather than heroic, and it starts with choosing what is worth holding.

Keywords

  • holding a position
  • steady courage
  • pressure
  • higher ground

The suit of Wands: action and will.

Light and shadow

Support. Firmer footing than you may feel you have, and a position you have earned.

Worth noticing. Spreading your strength over every small point until little is left for the one that matters.

A gentle step

Name the one position you most want to keep this week, and let two smaller ones go.

Gently. Holding firm is a choice, not a duty; stepping back from a point that no longer matters is not a defeat.

Across areas of life

Relationships
Defending a need or a boundary in a relationship, even if it stirs things up.
Work
Standing by an idea in a discussion, and negotiating calmly from the ground you already hold.
Resources
The footing you already have: experience, sound arguments, people on your side.
About you
Courage that feels tense rather than grand, and choosing what is worth keeping.

Questions for yourself

Which point here matters enough to hold, even if it causes some friction?

What advantages do you already have that you may be overlooking?
