You're not alone

Choose whatever helps right now.

If a life is in danger

Call the local emergency number, or ask someone nearby to call. If you have already hurt yourself or taken something dangerous, call now, even if you feel all right.

Where are you right now?

Help numbers depend on the country you're in, not on the site's language. We never ask for access to your location.

What you can do right now

  • If anything nearby could be used to hurt yourself, put it out of reach or ask someone to stay with you.
  • Message someone you trust: “I’m having a hard time. Can you be with me?”
  • You don't have to solve everything now. Getting through the next few minutes is enough.

Talk to a person

If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to live, call a support line. They will listen without judgment. You can also call when things simply feel too heavy.

Choose your country above to see its support lines. Lines in many countries are also listed in the Find A Helpline directory.

Seven of Pentacles

Leaning on his staff, a young man studies the pentacles on a bush: a pause to see what has grown.

By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

The card Seven of Pentacles: a drawing from the 1909 deck in a velvet frame
The 1909 deck after drawings by Pamela Colman Smith (public domain).

Image and meaning

Six discs hang like fruit on a leafy bush. Beside it, a young man leans on a long staff, chin resting on his crossed hands, and a seventh disc lies apart at his feet. This is a pause in the middle of long work, a moment to look at what has taken root. Not everything is ripe yet, and that is part of how slow work goes. Stopping to look belongs to the work; it is not quitting.

Keywords

  • pausing to assess
  • patience
  • slow growth
  • effort already made

The suit of Pentacles: body, work and resources.

Light and shadow

Support. Credit for the effort already made, before any result is complete.

Worth noticing. Judging slow growth as failure simply because it is not finished yet.

A gentle step

Look over one long project or habit today and name one thing that has grown, however small.

Gently. Slow progress does not mean something has gone wrong; many good things take longer than anyone would like.

Across areas of life

Relationships
Tending a bond that grows slowly, and noticing what has already taken root.
Work
Reviewing a long project midway: what is growing and what still needs care.
Resources
Valuing the time and effort already put in, before you ask them for results.
About you
Patience with your own pace, and respect for slow, steady effort.

Questions for yourself

Looking at what you have tended so far, what has actually taken root?

What still needs your care, and what can only be left to time?
