You're not alone

Choose whatever helps right now.

If a life is in danger

Call the local emergency number, or ask someone nearby to call. If you have already hurt yourself or taken something dangerous, call now, even if you feel all right.

Where are you right now?

Help numbers depend on the country you're in, not on the site's language. We never ask for access to your location.

What you can do right now

  • If anything nearby could be used to hurt yourself, put it out of reach or ask someone to stay with you.
  • Message someone you trust: “I’m having a hard time. Can you be with me?”
  • You don't have to solve everything now. Getting through the next few minutes is enough.

Talk to a person

If you're having thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to live, call a support line. They will listen without judgment. You can also call when things simply feel too heavy.

Choose your country above to see its support lines. Lines in many countries are also listed in the Find A Helpline directory.

Four of Cups

A figure sits with folded arms while a hand from a cloud offers a cup: a stretch when nothing tastes quite right.

By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

The card Four of Cups: a drawing from the 1909 deck in a velvet frame
The 1909 deck after drawings by Pamela Colman Smith (public domain).

Image and meaning

A young man sits against a tree, eyes lowered to three cups on the grass, while a hand from a cloud holds out a fourth. Whether he even sees it is left open. This can mirror flatness after too much, or after too little: nothing tastes good and new offers go unnoticed. A pause like this may be needed rest, or a way of closing off. Telling the two apart matters more than snapping out of it.

Keywords

  • flatness
  • withdrawal
  • weariness
  • pause
  • unnoticed offers

The suit of Cups: feelings and bonds.

Light and shadow

Support. Permission to not feel much for a while, and a pause that can turn into rest.

Worth noticing. Measuring what you have against what is missing until nothing on the grass looks worth picking up.

A gentle step

Look for the closest word for what lies under the flatness: tired, disappointed, lonely, bored, or something else.

Gently. If nothing has brought you pleasure for weeks, consider raising it with a professional or a person you trust.

Across areas of life

Relationships
Feeling flat in a bond, and asking what is missing rather than who is to blame.
Work
Boredom as a signal to read: which part of the work still holds some meaning?
Resources
Rest that restores, as opposed to withdrawal that slowly cuts you off.
About you
It is all right not to feel much for a while; flatness is a state you are in, not who you are.

Questions for yourself

Is this pause restoring you, or keeping you closed off?

What has been offered lately that you have barely looked at?

How to read this card

In the tarot tradition, for reflection. The card does not know the future and is no substitute for professional advice.

Card of the day

Every day one card is shared by everyone. Open it and see what this image highlights in you.

If you'd like some supportEmotion wheel

The cards are a prompt to pause and listen to yourself. In the tarot tradition, for reflection: the cards do not know the future and decide nothing for you. The texts are for reflection and entertainment and are no substitute for advice from a doctor, psychologist, lawyer or financial professional.
