Minor Arcana · Wands
Ten of Wands
Ten staves clasped against the chest hide the bearer's face, though the house ahead is near: a load that blocks the view.
By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict
Put down whatever is in your hands, let your arms hang loose, shake out your hands and shoulders, and breathe out slowly.

Image and meaning
Bent forward, a figure walks with ten staves gathered in both arms, so many that they cover the face. A house with a red roof stands not far off. This speaks of overload that grows out of being capable: more was taken on because it could be carried, until the bundle hid the way. Saying yes to everything can feel safer than saying no. Yet the stride is steady, and not every staff has to be yours.

The suit of Wands: action and will.
Light and shadow
Support. Proof of how much you can carry, and room to decide how much you want to.
Worth noticing. Taking on one more thing because you can, long after you have stopped wanting to.
A gentle step
Look at what you are carrying and name one staff you could set down, share or carry later.
Gently. Big decisions made under this much weight tend to add to it; where you can, decide after you have rested.
Across areas of life
- Relationships
- Carrying the emotional weight of a relationship on your own, and noticing what could be shared.
- Work
- Too many commitments at once; sorting what is essential, what someone else could take, and what can wait.
- Resources
- Strength stretched close to its limit, and protecting what is left of it.
- About you
- Duty and habit as reasons for carrying everything, and the question of what is yours to hold.
Questions for yourself
Which of the things you carry did you choose, and which simply landed on you?
What would you see ahead if one or two staves were set down?
