Minor Arcana · Cups
Seven of Cups
Seven cups float on a bank of clouds, each holding a different picture: many options, none of them solid yet.
By Tarot tradition: a mirror, not a verdict

Image and meaning
A dark figure seen from behind raises a hand toward seven cups on the clouds, each holding a picture: a face, a veiled shape, a snake, a tower, jewels, a wreath and a small dragon. Hopes, temptations and fears sit side by side. An anxious mind uses the same imagination to paint dreams and worst cases. The skill here is sorting: what is real, what is only vivid, and which option deserves a trial run.

The suit of Cups: feelings and bonds.
Light and shadow
Support. A rich imagination that can show you possibilities you had not considered.
Worth noticing. Spending energy on vivid pictures, hopeful or frightening, that have not been checked against the facts.
A gentle step
Write down one worry or hope that keeps coming back, then list what you actually know about it.
Gently. Before a big choice, it helps to compare the picture with what you know, and perhaps to run it past a level-headed friend.
Across areas of life
- Relationships
- Telling the person apart from the picture you have of them, hopeful or anxious.
- Work
- Too many ideas at once: which one could you try out on a small scale first?
- Resources
- Separating resources you actually have from ones you hope for or fear losing.
- About you
- Your imagination can soothe and scare; either way, what it shows is a picture, not a fact.
Questions for yourself
Which of your options rest on something solid, and which are mostly imagination?
